Community

Volunteering in the communities we do business in is a significant part of our firm's culture. Our partners and staff donate time and resources throughout the communities we serve in a variety of ways.

39th Anniversary Clifford Bullard Memorial Golf Tournament

Golfers in Robeson County got their clubs out for the 39th Anniversary Clifford Bullard Memorial Golf Tournament. The tournament, which raises money for the RCC Foundation to support student success and the mission of Robeson Community College, was held October 5, 2023 at Pinecrest Golf Course in Lumberton.

We were proud to participate as you see Jace Ward, John Grissom, and Lee Grissom, with our friend, Timmy Kinlaw(second from the right).

Rotary Club of Elizabethtown's Golf Outing

On May 19, 2023, we had the honor of participating in the Rotary Club of Elizabethtown's Golf Outing.  This event raised funds for students in the form of local scholarships.  Thanks to Lee Grissom, Meredith Godwin, Jace Ward, and Olivia Beeker...also known as, Team Green Dragon...for being part of this event.  To learn more about the Rotary Club of Elizabethtown, please visit www.elizabethtownrotary.org/

Rise Against Hunger

On November 13, 2022, we were so happy to volunteer in helping Trinity United Methodist Church of Elizabethtown in their partnership with Rise Against Hunger. Through this unique service opportunity, we danced, sang-along and were in fellowship as we looked to package over 15,000 meals. These meals will be distributed through Rise Against Hunger's global partners that administer school feeding programs, orphanages, health clinics, vocational training, and in response to crises.

Day of Caring

S. Preston Douglas & Associates was proud to be a part of the Lumber River United Way's 2021 Day of Caring. The event occurred Friday, May 7th with our employees joining a number of other area businesses for a day of volunteering. Coming off of a difficult year in which volunteering and other community events had been cancelled, we were so excited to be part of this worthy cause.

5th Annual CPA Day of Service

On September 23, 2016, our Lumberton office enjoyed the opportunity to dress down and participate in the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants' (NCACPA) Day of Service for the fourth consecutive year. This year we helped set up for the annual Fall Book Sale at the Robeson County Public Library. And of course, as it is the tradition, Katie Fountain lets us take home a few book with us!

4th Annual CPA Day of Service

On September 18, 2015, S. Preston Douglas & Associates, LLP participated in the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants’ (NCACPA) Day of Service for the third consecutive year. This year we helped complete a landscaping project at the Carolyn T. High Memorial Library. NCACPA Day of Service was established nearly four years ago to demonstrate North Carolina CPA’s dedication to service in their communities.

24th Annual Swing for Good Health Golf Tournament

S. Preston Douglas & Associates, LLP was pleased to participate with other businesses and organizations across North Carolina for the 24th Annual Swing for Good Health Golf Tournament. This event was held on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Pinecrest Country Club. The proceeds from this event are used to provide funding for medical, nursing and allied health scholarships for residents from Robeson and surrounding counties. Participants from our firm, Buddy McLean and Lee Grissom (both dressed in black golf shirts in photo below), enjoyed the opportunity to give back to our community in this wonderful event.

CPA Day of Service

S. Preston Douglas & Associates, LLP was pleased to join Robeson Health Care Corporation and other businesses and organizations across North Carolina for the second annual Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Day of Service. This event was held on Friday, September 20, 2013 and gave CPAs the opportunity to give back to their communities through volunteer service with a charitable organization of their choice.

Our firm worked with Robeson Health Care Corporation to complete an exterior painting project at Grace Court, a supervised living facility for women and their children dealing with substance abuse issues. A group of 10 CPAs and staff members from the firm participated.

Our firm decided to work with Robeson Health Care Corporation because they provide a variety of preventative health care and substance abuse services vital to the residents of the area. “Our firm has been fortunate enough to serve clients in this area since 1941 and it is important for us to give back to the community,” said John Grissom, Partner.

The Day of Service is sponsored by the North Carolina Association of CPAs. Approximately 2,000 CPAs and staff members from throughout the state participated in this year’s event. The goal of the Day of Service is to allow CPAs to show their dedication to the cities and towns in which they live and to highlight the many ways they give back to their communities on a regular basis.
